Hello My Name Is...

Dollie Morrell

Dollie Morrell

This is my 26th year in education, and every year has been a rewarding, learning experience for me.  I graduated from Francis Marion University with a BS Degree in Early Childhood Education and began my teaching career as a first grade teacher.  I taught first grade for 3 years.  I later completed a Master’s Degree in Elementary Guidance and worked as a school guidance counselor for 14 years.  I was an assistant principal at the middle school level for 3 years.  In addition, I earned an Education Specialist Degree from Argosy University, and this is my sixth year as principal of Latta Early Childhood Center.  I am married to Richard Morrell, and have two children, Austin and Chandler.  I appreciate the support from my family, our outstanding staff at LECC, Dr. Kirby and the district office staff, parents of my students and the community.  Together, we can support and encourage our children to be lifelong learners and outstanding citizens.

Principal's Message
Welcome to our Latta Early Childhood Center web site. LECC is a school with big ideas! Our faculty and staff are dedicated to giving each and every child the best possible education using innovative scheduling, intervention and assistance for children and parents, and the latest technology available. We have a highly qualified staff who continues to grow by attending workshops, grade level training opportunities and graduate courses. All teachers have a common planning time which is used for grade level planning and school-wide professional development.

Our goal is to meet the individual needs of all students by using creative ideas and applying best practices and the latest research. Every classroom is equipped with a VISTA system which includes an interactive SMART Board, Light Speed sound system, mounted projector and document camera. These systems are used to enhance instruction and motivate and involve students in the learning process. The school has implemented a school-wide, supplementary, multi-age reading program which is available to all kindergarten and first grade students. We are excited to announce that we are adding our first Montessori Primary class this year. With the addition of this new program, parents will have the opportunity to choose which program best meets the needs of their children, and we have plans to add additional classes in the near future.

Academic success and good behavior are celebrated throughout the year both in the classroom and in school-wide awards ceremonies. In addition, school performances are used as a venue for our students to exhibit their artistic, dramatic and musical talents. LECC students also participate in fundraising opportunities to support the community.

School begins at 7:45 and ends at 2:15 for students. Breakfast is served daily to all students in the classroom.
