WAY TO GO GUYS!!!!!

Please carefully read the new board policy on school tardies.  Beginning January 10, 2012, every 3 unexcused tardies will turn into 1 unexcused absence.  Three unexcused early dismissals will turn into 1 unexcused absence.  An early dismissal for a doctor’s appointment will be excused provided the parent sends a doctor’s excuse when the child returns to school.  If your child is sent home early by the school nurse, that early dismissal will also be excused.  Any other dismissals will be unexcused.  Once a student receives 5 unexcused absences they are considered truant and can receive an official attendance referral.  If you have questions about this new policy, do not hesitate to contact the school and we will be happy to talk with you about it.

 Parent Connect

PowerSchool's Parent Portal allows parents to view students' grades, attendance and more. To sign up for a Parent Portal account, please visit the district's website www.dillon3.k12.sc.us and click on Parents on the left.  You will need to click on the second PowerSchool tab to sign up for an account.

We are still collecting!!!!!

LECC collects CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS, BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION AND COKE REWARDS codes.  We earn money and classroom supplies for the items that we submit.  When you turn in any of these items, please make sure that the label or box top section is the only party you send to school.  We do not need the entire label or box top.  We also collect can tabs for the Ronald MacDonald House in Columbia.  They recycle the tabs to earn money to help the RMH house sick children and their families.  We also need help organizing the labels and box tops for submission.  If you can help with this, please call the school at 752-2711.  Thank you for your help!

 DON'T FORGET EACH WEEK TO:

Wear your sneakers on Wednesdays for it is physical Education day.

Bring your library book to school on Fridays. You will exchange your book during libray activity.

PARENT REMINDERS

  • Please put all lunch monies in an envelope with child’s name and the amount on the front.
  • Please put ice packs in lunch boxes.
  • Please check on line to view a monthly menu for lunch and breakfast.
  • I will take attendance at 7:50 each morning. Any student entering the classroom past this time will be marked as tardy.
  • Check green folder EACH DAY for classwork, teacher notes, homework, test papers, or school letters.
  • It is much EASIER to reach me by my school e-mail than by phone.  We are in grade level meetings after school making it difficult to return calls promptly.
  • Thank you in advance for your support. I have a lot to teach and your child has a lot to learn. It is going to be a blast!!!!

EVERYDAY MATH PROGRAM

An important part of being a flexible problem-solver is to continually add to a personal tool kit of mental arithmetic skills that are ‘automatized’ – that is,
that are so well-practiced, that they are used reflexively, almost
without thinking. In
Everyday Mathematics, good mental arithmetic reflexes are called fact power."

Just Right or Good Fit Books

In the classic tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Goldilocks tried all of the bears' porridge, chairs, and beds.  Eventually, she found the ones that were "just right" for her. The books your child reads can be thought of in the same way.  A book that is "just right" is one that your child can read independently.  It is not too hard and it is not too easy. It's a good fit - it's "just right".

One way to help your child choose such a book is to use The Five Finger Rule.  While reading the first page of a book, count the unknown words (using fingers to keep track is fine). If there are five or more, the book is too hard for now. Read that book together!
