OUR VALENTINE PARTY
We had such a great Valentine Party.  Thank you so much for helping make it great!  The boys and girls enjoyed sharing goodies with each other.  The Valentine Cards are always a big hit, too.  Thank you for sending the snacks and special gifts.  Ms. Karen and I are truly grateful.  We have a wonderful bunch of children.  Parents, thank you for all you do to help make our class special.

Parents,  I will be going out for surgery the week of February 20th and will be out for about six weeks.  There will be a retired, certified kindergarten teacher filling in for me during my time away from school.  I will be checking in with her on a regular basis and keeping up with the students.  If all goes as planned, I will return to school the week of April 9th.

CALENDAR FUN (Math)
This is a neat math activity you might like to try with your child at home.  We have done it in class and the students seem to enjoy it.  Take an old or new wall calendar and remove the staples.  You will now have 12 individual sheets / months of the year.  This is like number bingo.  The entire family can play.  Give each player a sheet / month of the year.  Now, someone calls out a number on the calendar sheet for everyone to find and circle. You can use pencils or crayons to circle the numbers.  Call out various numbers from 1 - 30 for them to find and circle.  This is an excellent way to teach number recognition.  The students can also review the Days of the Week by looking at the calendar sheet, too.  You can ask them questions like ...."What day comes before Wednesday"......."What day comes after Friday".....etc.  They can even spell the specific month they have at the top of their sheet.

MATH / VERY SIMPLE ADDITION
The boys and girls have been working on some very simple addition in class.  Some of their work has been sent home in the green folders.  This is something you can do at home, too.  I like to use (2) different crayons when starting out with this skill.  I use (1) color to represent the numbers and the other color is used for the plus sign and equal sign.  Below are a few examples:
O O + O O =
4
O O O O + O O =
6
O O O + O O = 5
The simple addition problems above also help with number writing.  The students are learning to write numbers 0 - 10 while solving the problems.  You can use various shapes, pictures, etc. in place of the circles.  They can even create / draw their own math problems to solve.

WAY TO GO, LITTLE PEOPLE
The students are really doing a great job with spelling and writing their last names.  I am so proud of them!  They are doing a wonderful job with the handwriting paper.
